In the mighty kingdom of Ontolakis.
The people grew more and more unhappy with the adopted prince, Jerónimo, and to please the people, Lav took a mistress. Just a couple of weeks after that, Demetria, the mistress, announced that she was pregnant. The people were satisfied again, but the joy didn't last long. Altercations with the nearby kingdom of Auca had broken out. The king of Auca, Nahuel, blamed Lav for not punishing Ontolakian thieves who stole crops in the border counties of Auca. Between Ontolakis and Auca there were great mountains, and Lav realised that Nahuel might be right. But Lav didn't know what to do about it - if the thieves were hiding in the mountains, it would be almost impossible for Lav to find them. The mountain people of Ontolakis weren't like the rest of the Ontolakians, they were known for being unfriendly and only speak their own, very guttural, dialect, that no one else really understood. After long discussions with Emmanouil, Lav decided to sell the mountain parts of Ontolakis to Nahuel, and give him free hands to punish the thieves.
The royal family was just about to go to Auca, when Demi gave birth to a son. He was big and strong, and already looked like a succesful warrior. The people totally loved him, and his birth was celebrated for three days.
Lav didn't want to leave his newborn son so soon and decided to delay the trip to Auca for three other months. He was stunned by the boy, and, quite happy it was a boy with only Ontolakian blood running in his veines. Tripolis, the family Demi was from, was a very noble family in Ontolakis, the boy was named Erasmus after a great ancestor in the Tripoli family. Erasmus had also been the name of one of the early kings in Ontolakis. Erasmus was given the surname Tripoli Fakiris. Adding the maiden name to the surname was the Ontolakian way of showing that the child was illegitimate.
Three months later, Lav and the entire royal family (not including Demi and Erasmus) went to Auca. Nahuel was happy to learn that Lav was so accommodating, and gladly accepted the offer. Soon the clan of thieves in the mountains were slaughtered and peace was restored. And that's when Selena found out that she was pregnant. She figured it was "just another useless girl" and didn't talk much about it (she felt threatened by the young, beautiful Demi with her perfect son, and that the people loved her didn't make it any better). Imagine her joy when it turned out the child she'd been carrying, in fact, was a boy! He was a typical Cordocian, dark skinned and with amber eyes. He was named Aucaman, meaning "man of Auca" in Ontolakian, and "wild condor" in the Auca language. Lav was happy of course, but still concerned. Who would be his heir? The legal, foreign-looking Iason or the illegitimate, older, loved-by-the-people Erasmus?
When Lav started to look for a mistress, Selena was devastated. Lav tried to explain that it wasn't personal, but Selena disagreed. She felt humiliated and unloved, both by Lav and the people. Her only comfort was her children, especially Jerónimo. Konstantina was also a lot like her mother, and on their spare time, the queen and Konstantina used to go out in the royal garden and paint, sometimes for hours.
Edmonda, on the other hand, was the most patriotic Ontolakian Lav could have hoped for. She was smart, and her tenacity almost scared Lav. She could also be merciless when it came to enemies of the country. She was expected to be a powerful princess for the Ontolakians. While in Auca, Nahuel introduced her to his son, Kato. Edmonda seemed totally uninterested in him, until Lav discreetly hinted that he was the Aucan crown prince and it could really mean a lot to the Ontolakian people if she showed affection for him. In a second, Edmonda was completely transformed and showing off her best sides, really trying to entertain Kato. Lav was very proud.
Ikenna and Callisto are the same age, but since Ikenna's third birthday, he hasn't improved mentally. Callisto's beauty is great in contrast, and even compared to any other child, she is extraordinary in looks. Her hair is blonder than most Ontolakians, but her eyes almost black and sparkles in the light. She's predicted to be a heart-breaker.
After great fights with Selena, Lav almost gave up the whole mistress thing, but Emmanouil pushed him. "The people won't give you a choice. If Selena gives birth to another daughter, we might be talking about a revolution. Don't shake your head at me! I know Despina is out there somewhere, and she is a lot smarter than you think. One step wrong and she's on the throne!".
Lav nodded and sighed, while Emmanouil presented some young women who could be appropriate as a mistress. Lav felt disgusted, since most of them acted like prostitutes, even if they were from noble families. Then Emmanouil presented Demetria. She walked up straight to Lav and looked him in the eyes while she talked to him. She was honest, and she wasn't afraid to speak up about her views on things. And she was quite charming too! She made clear that it was her family's wish that she should become a royal mistress, and even though she disagreed, she had sworn to do her best and most professional job, so her family would be proud of her. Lav winked at Emmanouil. He'd made his choice.
It didn't take long for Lav to completely fall in love with Demi. Of course, that was inappropriate, so he never said a word about it, or showed it. But Selena saw it, and grew even more depressed and jealous. Around the time for the baby's birth, Demi confessed affection for Lav too.
"I hate being a mistress, but of all the mistresses in the world, I think I might be the luckiest," she said, looking straight in Lav's eyes and trying to sound cool, but she blushed. Other people might think she was just faking that to flatter Lav, but Lav knew she'd never lie to make someone else feel good. Demi was more an always-speak-your-mind kind of girl. Which only made him love her more.
Lav still saw it as his royal role to make love to the queen, and that was how Iason was concieved.
