Aurelien and Liadan met five years ago in a small pub in Paris--her roommate, whom she was traveling with at the time, dared her to talk to the attractive, dark-haired Frenchman who was brooding by the bar. A stereotypical plucky redhead, Liadan couldn't resist the dare, and she and Aurelien got to talking...and talking....and talking. They discovered that they had nearly everything in common--both of them were writers who hated romantic comedies but loved James Joyce. They spent nearly all of Liadan's week long holiday together--he nicknamed her "Lila," for he told her that her eyes reminded him of lilacs, but really, he just had a hard time pronouncing her name,--and shared a passionate night together before Liadan went back to university. They kept in touch and soon started a long distance relationhip. Once Aurelien visited, however, he fell in love with the moody atmosphere of Dublin and relocated to Ireland, where he proposed to Liadan. They got married a year later, and are both working grunt jobs to support themselves while writing their works--Aurelien as a translator with a mystery novel, and Liadan at a publishing house with her short stories.
