For a first anniversary gift, Gabriele took Alex to New York for one week. Alex enjoyed himself immensely but got slightly nostalgic for the days before he was married. Gabriele felt the pressure of trying to pay for his expenses and was tense through the whole vacation until she finally exploded at him as they were boarding the plane. Alex promised to get a job and, then to appease Gabriele, bought a two-month-old female kitten and let her name it.
