Are you pronouncing it like
Mya or like May-a? If you are pronouncing it the same I would avoid it but I really hate common names. Still, she's your child. If you and your dh want to use it regardless of its popularity then you should.
ETA: If you are pronouncing it the same as
Mya and
Maya you have to be prepared that when you call "
Maia" all the Myas and Mayas will answer too. You aren't likely to have many other Evanders answering when you call your son. If you like that and want that for your daughter too I'm afraid
Maia should go on the back burner.
