I like the name Jude, but my family doesn't. They think it sounds like a nickname. Any suggestions on what Jude can be a nn for? Other than Judah? Thanks!

Jude isn't a nickname, it's a full name. As for my opinion, I don't like the name.

I know I've got a friend who likes Jude as a nn for Judas, but really I think that Jude stands on its own just fine.

Jude could in theory be a short form of Judson, but that is all I could think of. I prefer Jude itself as a given name. I love Jude Edmund.

Julian, nn Jude. (The song "Hey, Jude" is named after the singer's son named Julian.)

It was originally called "Hey, Jules" after Julian Lennon (John's son), but Paul McCartney changed it because he thought it was easier to sing Jude. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what happened; whatever the case may be, it was definitely about a Julian.

I LOVE Jude, all on it's own. Your family ultimately doesn't get a say, and if you are talking about naming a baby, they will love the baby and grow to love his name.

I think it's great as a full name! By the way, you should never include your family in naming endeavors! :o) Judah is nice too. Also Judoc. I don't know how you pronounce it, but I think it looks sweet! If you're not anti made-up names, you could throw an n on the end and it would fit in with current trends: Juden.

I love Jude it to me is certainly not a nickname however it is short and my family loves names that are longer and can make nn from.

It's not a nickname and it doesn't need to be a nickname for anything. If you like Jude, use Jude, and don't kowtow to your family's misguided opinion. However, I'm now wishing I'd put Jude in my "names that make you cringe" list.
