The last four years have been difficult for the von Saxewald family. After Odila's birth Adelmar had slipped into a deep depression, bought on by the events that had recently unfolded in his life. He had decided to take a short hunting trip in the Eastern Mountains, in the hopes of lifting his spirits, which ended up lasting two whole years.
While Adelmar would send letters on occassion to his family, Swanahilda was essentially abandoned and left to run the affairs on their county. She proved to be an able administrator and slowly bought their finances back to a stable and strong level after all the money they had to spend "charitably" on the avalanche victims.
Also while Adelmar was away Swanahilda did something she never believed she would... she conducted an affair, albeit short lived but passionate. The Swanahilda's lover was a young travelling poet named Glauco Abandonato. His poems on forbidden love excited Swanahilda and soon they because involved. After a few months the excitement faded and Swanahilda realised, that while she might not love her husband she had a duty to perform as a wife, so she called off the affair and wrote to Adelmar, urging him to return to his family.
Adelmar had begun to lift from his depression, enjoyed a few more months of hunting both game and women before heeding his wife pleas.
Upon his return, having seen how well Swanahilda had performed with the running of the county, decided that she should continue to do so and that he would see if the King would allow him command again in the army, as Adelmar had heard rumours that the hated French weren't being peaceable and that he might get to clash swords with them once more.
Shortly after the couples reunion, Swanahilda found herself pregnant. Adelmar was resigned to the fact that they would possibly have another girl and Swanahilda felt that this time the much longed for heir would be born... and so it was that they had their first son... Vulfgang Adelmar Gerulf. They named him after the former King & Adelmar's patron, the child's father and Swanahilda's father.
