I'm fond of Agnes. Aggie I've always found a bit cutesy though, despite finding Maggie spunky. I think I'd be more inclined to use Ness or Nessie as a nn then. Definitely works on a young girl, especially with the potential nns which would almost certainly find more use.
And I agree with the couple of posters who have mentioned the hipster factor. I have a bunch of artsy hipster friends who all seem to want to name their daughters either Agnes, Edith or Frances. Granny revival! I think it's great. I can't see Agnes being particularly mainstream though. Matilda is here, but I can't seeing Agnes workin' it on the popularity charts any time soon.
