The last 2 years have been amongst the most pleasurable that Eleonore has ever experienced. No one has forgiven Heinrich for his forceful behaviour on Hedwig a few years back, and consequently he has been away on diplomatic business more often than he has been home. Johan's birth did bring Heinrich much joy however and when he is home, he truly does dote on the boy, much as he once did with Fritzi before he realised the truth. Heinrich spoils Johan however, and trusts the other children with nothing but disdain. Originally, this treatment was hard on the older children but over time they have learnt not to have expectations when it comes to Heinrich, and they do not really mind all that much. This suits Eleonore just fine as she knows that when Heinrich is gone, her children have a much better male influence in Walter.
Val and Ami are growing to be fine young women and Eleonore has no concern for their futures as she is sure that they will make fine wives when their time comes. Eleonore hopes that they both find men they can be fond of if nothing else as she refuses to allow them to enter into the same kind of marriage as she herself has been stuck in. It is Fritzi whom Eleonore worries for however. His paternage has never been publically declared, but Heinrich knows the truth. Upon Johan's birth, Heinrich decreed that, when the time comes, the Duchy of Bergfalk will pass over Fritzi and go directly to Johan, the only true Bergfalk heir. This leaves poor Fritzi with nothing, and Eleonore wonders where that will leave the little prince, who is not a prince. She has often thought of asking Walter to bestow something to his son, but has yet to establish a way that that could be done without raising eyebrows amongst the nobility - after all, surely they would then have to ask why the King bestowed such an honour on Fritzi, and not any of their sons...
Aside from the worry over her children's futures however, Eleonore got into a routine at the palace. Deliver the elder children to the governesses each morning where they would be taken away for a days lessons and then join Hedwig in her palour with the babes where they would talk, paint, embroider, anything that took their fancy. The evenings were spent with the children, listening to their stories of their days and revealing in their enthusiasm for life. A few times a week, Walter would join them and they would laugh and carry on. Walter and Fritzi were so close, and it would warm Eleonore's heart to see the father and son share those special moments that she once had thought would never be possible. After the children were bathed, fed and put to bed, Eleonore would read, or on the nights when Walter was with her they would make love and she would fall asleep in his arms, though he was always gone when she woke. The only exception was the few months in the last 2 years when Heinrich would be home, and even then the only difference was that instead of Walter being with her a few nights a week, it was Heinrich, and it was only a few nights a few because he would spend the rest of the time at the tavern.
The morning of the Dowager Queen's death, Eleonore could feel something off in the palace the moment she awoke. She got the children ready for their lessons as always and took them to met their cousins, but the prince and princesses were not waiting for them as usual. It was then that one of the servants told her that the Dowager Queen had passed away during the night. Eleonore was shocked and upset as the Dowager Queen had always been very kind to her, especially given that she knew full well what her relationship with Walter was. Eleonore quickly made her way to the heavily pregnant Hedwig's side, and there she remained, a constant support to her sister and Walter, throughout the trying time. Walter took his mother's death especially hard and Eleonore's love for him grew upon seeing the grief he had for his mother. She was a support to him in the weeks that followed and would often just spend her nights with him just holding the grieving king, as she tried to counsul him as best she could.
It was not long after this that Hedwig delivered a daughter whom was named for her grandmother at Walter's insistence. The birth was hard on Hedwig and she did not recover as quickly as she had after her other children's births. Eleonore was very worried for her sister and tried to help as much as she could with all of the children in that time. She had been so busy in fact that she had not even realised that she had missed a few monthly cycles until such time as her favorite gown would not fit!
Belatedly realising that she was pregnant was a shock to Eleonore, especially because there was no way she could pass this child off as Heinrich's as he had not been home in months. Naturally the first person she told was Walter, and while he was very happy that she was having another of his children, he to knew that the people would know full well that this child was his. Between them they established a plan, although it was far-fetched and they were not sure anyone would believe it. Two days after her realisation, Eleonore travelled, alone, back to the deserted Bergfalk estate with a staff. The people had been told that Duke Bergfalk had taken ill in the south of France where he was currently stationed and had sent word that he wished his wife to join him to serve him whilst he recovered. The children would naturally stay at the palace with their Aunt and Uncle rather than make such an arduous journey. However, instead of travelling to Heinrich's side, Eleonor spent the next 9 months in lock down so that no one would see her still in Bial.
3 months into her confinement, Eleonore gave birth to a little girl whom she named Brigitta who had dark hair and bright blue eyes. Eleonore personally thinks her features are very similar to her half-sister Annelie's but, as no one else has seen the baby she can not be sure if it is just her mind. Luckily, Brigitta is a very dainty child and upon her return to the palace Eleonore was very careful about not letting people see Gitta up close, so not too many people questioned her when she passed off her 6 month old baby as a very large newborn... In her absence Walter had had his people doing research on Heinrich in case they needed information to help convince him to back up their story when the time comes.
