Britt’s Once-Upon-a-Time Congrats
As you could probably guess by the title, this congrats will be based on fairy- and folktales. Choose your favorite traditional tale, be it fairytale, folktale, legend, epic—anything that has been told for centuries and can begin "Once upon a time." They can be from anywhere, and you can adapt the name language to fit your style (i.e. a Grimm fairytale with Russian names or a Perrault tale with African ones) since most traditional tales tend to have a version in just about every part of the world anyway. If you choose something obscure, please provide the backstory or a link to the version you use, just so I can follow what’s going on. It MUST end with a marriage or the promise of a marriage. You may need to look up the original version of the story to make sure it really ends with a couple and not rely on modern retellings or movie versions as a lot of these have totally different endings (such as almost all Little Mermaid retellings).
If there are a lot of traditional versions of your story, pick your favorite, and you can certainly mix-and-match versions and play with the story to fit your fancy. Since our game will pick up after some time has passed, get as creative as you want with the in-between and go wherever you want with the story as it goes on. If you have any questions, just ask and I’ll answer as quickly as possible. I will give very generic prompts, and feel free to run wild with them. I encourage it!
Rules
1. Three missed rounds period will result in dropping unless you inform me that you will be missing rounds.
2. Please keep up with ages. I have never once NOT messed at least one character’s age up when trying to keep up with everyone, so this time it’s your responsibility :P. I’ll let you know how many years have passed with each round and probably provide some sort of list of what ages should be.
3. Stories are a big part of this game, so if you aren’t the type who likes to add stories to your families, then this probably isn’t the game for you.
General note: this round I won’t be randomizing children. Some rounds I’ll give everyone the same gender child and others I’ll have an if/then choice or a die-roll/pick-a-number. Some rounds there will be the option for twins, but no higher multiples than that.
Titles are up to you. If your couple isn’t royal or noble, then put something to the effect of goodman/goodwife or citizen/citizeness.
So, enough of my babble. To quote a favorite movie of mine, “Get on with it!”
