[Opinions] Margot
What are your overall thoughts on Margot? I'm really fond of it, but believe it has the right "ingredients" that could cause it to potentially rise in popularity (like Willow, Shiloh etc.) - agree?

I can't really see Margot becoming popular anytime soon. I think it's elegant and very charming, but it's not the kind of name that everyone finds appealing. It's my middle name AND my mum's name... this post comes like 20 posts after the post on my first name. I get it mispronounced a lot (pronouncing the t), but that's mostly by my teenage friends. I actually really like it. I didn't used to. But now it's in and out of my top ten because I think it would be nice to have a Margot and continue it as a family name. I can see Margot's appeal now that I'm older and don't just think of it as another word for "Muuuuuuum!".

I like it. I can see it becoming more popular considering older names like Evelyn, Sophia, Stella, and Lillian have increased in popularity lately, and it's similar to Willow, Shiloh, and Harlow, which are trendy right now.

I like it, and I think it's nice. I remember first hearing it as the name of Anne Frank's older sister.

I don't know why the dowdy Margaret is so popular when spunky Margot is overlooked. I love it.However, I don't think it will rise in popularity like Willow and Shiloh have. Margot has the same sound, yes, but the Mar- makes it just a little clunky. Not a bad thing, but it's not as soft as the other names.

Sometimes I really like it. It topped my list during my beginning namenerd days, until I mentioned this to my mother, who immediately put on a screeching Bostonian accent and crowing "MAAAAAAAAAAHgo MAAAAAAAHgo Get in heeah MAAAAGo." Apparently I have a cousin named Margeaux that I didn't know about, and her mother has an unpleasant accent. "Well, I think it's pretty," I protested lamely. "You wouldn't if you heard aunt whatever say it!" chortled my mum. So now I have a hard time liking it as much as I want.I don't think it'll get trendy, at least not like Willow and Shiloh, for 3 primary reasons: a. "Mar" still isn't fashionable (Marcy, Martin, Marge - although I guess things like Marjorie are fashionable among certain circles) b. It looks like "maggot," which will put it off the lists of anyone who asks their friends and family about names c. it has that nice clumpy "arg" sound in the middle, which most people don't have the courage to embrace.

I really like it. It's very sweet, but a bit edgy. I love the sound, mostly, and like it as a nn for Margaret, although I think I'd spell it Margo just for fun. It does have the right sound and appeal to become more popular, I think.

I didn't really think of the popularity potential....
hmm.... I suppose it's possible but I am thinking that most of the people choosing Willow and Shiloh are more likely to go for something less sophisticated than Margot... Just my two cents...AND, I must say that Clemence and Margot would be fantastic in a set!

I love Margot! I don't think it will experience a popularity boom -- Margot's history of use is much more substantial than that of Willow and Shiloh (think Margot Fonteyn, Margot Kidder, etc.).Also, Margot complements Clemence perfectly, in my opinion.
