I love Bruno on the character in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas... but I think the name is best on a pet. A dog named Bruno seems right. Unless of course you're in Italy, in which case I'm sure it's fine.

I quite like Bruno, for a real person or a character.

I still think it's kind of jokey. But if I saw a little boy named Bruno I'd probably be tickled. How cute would that be?

The "It's silly but I love it" name on my list is Boris. I'm well aware of how it sounds in the context of who and where I am but I can't help it. Love it, love it, love it. Would have a little Boris in a heartbeat.

On a similar vein: a friend of mine dated a young woman named Brunhilde nicknamed Bruna. I couldn't believe I was fortunate enough to meet one in real life. :-D

I always used to associate the name Bruno with the dog from Disney's Cinderella for some reason. It always struck me as a good dog name. Since Bruno Mars though, it's getting more human gradually for me.

I dislike it. It seems like a name that is trying too hard. I don't know why I feel that way, but I do. I find it hard to take it seriously.

I absolutely adore Bruno! I would use it for a real person.

I used to think Bruno sounds very brutish, but like it very much after reading "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas". So yay for John Boyne!

I'd definitely still lean very far to the thinking-that-name-is-a-joke side. Or a dog name maybe. It sounds too much like "brute". I couldn't imagine naming a baby Bruno.

It's quite common here and a friend has a 2-year-old Bruno so the name is cute and bubbly to me (since little Bruno is cute and bubbly).

I like it too; the only thing that puts me off somewhat is that I used to know people with a daughter named Brunhilde who was known as Bruni. So I've got to focus on the word ending before I'm sure what gender I'm encountering.
