Help[Opinions] Orinoco?
I was listening to the song "Orinoco Flow" by Enya the other day, and it struck me that Orinoco would make a great name. After all, other river names have found their way into human usage: Aeron, Arax, Clodagh, Clyde, Jordan, Kaveri, Kelvin, Leith, Shannon, Trent... even River. (Of course, most of the aforementioned names are not commonly used, but some are fairly "normal.") Now, all of those rivers are in Europe and Asia... but what about South America?
I think Orinoco can actually suit both genders, though I prefer it for a girl (perhaps due to the song association). Wdyt???

The name sounds like a river in Venezuela. Venezuela's not a very good place to name a baby after.

The Orinoco River does go through Venezuela, but also other countries. I wouldn't consider naming someone Orinoco "naming them after Venezuela," though.

I mostly associate it with the song, but as a name I think of it as a mostly female type name. To be honest, I wouldn't use it on a real person, maybe as a middle name for a character, or for a relatively minor character.

I agree, I thought it sounded like an exotic character name. But for a boy though. Definitely a name suitable for people though.

he has friends called Tobermory, Wellington and Great-Uncle Bulgaria. :)
I do like a lot of river names though, and I don't see why it wouldn't be usable in a Womble-free zone. There are quite a few Welsh names that come from rivers and lakes. I know a girl called Menai, after the Menai Straits.

I don't like it. It makes me think of Ochocinco, the football player for the Bengals, I think. He changed his last name to his Jersey number, 85.
