[Opinions] Re: Arwen or Eowyn?
in reply to a message by Daenerys
I adore both, and I am totally with you. My dad actually wanted to call me Arwen, but my mom hated it. :P I think they're cool.
I would say use Arwen, but only because of possible spelling issues with non-LotR readers attempting Eowyn (Aiowen, Ayawen, Eiowyn, etc.). Arwen is fairly straightforward for people to spell and pronounce, and since a lot of people (sadly) are very unfamiliar with LotR, it might just be easier to deal with.
HOWEVER. Arwen Gwendolen sounds redundant with that ending. I totally get the wanting to use a Welsh name as a MN, but I would steer clear of anything ending in -en. What about... Arwen Meinir, Arwen Ceinlys, Arwen Eira, Arwen Tesni, Arwen Lowri, Arwen Delyth, Arwen Eleri, or Arwen Myfanwy?
