I did a survey on the name Mabel a few days ago and I didn't get very conclusive results!http://www.behindthename.com/polls/view.php?id=51210So what do you think of the name Mabel? If there was a nn involved it would probably be Mab. (To rhyme with "cab")
Do you think it is too old-fashioned? If not, do you think it could be used on a 21st century baby girl? Do you like it? What middle names do you think would go with it? Thanks in advance.

I love Mabel! It's a beautiful name and not at all too old-fashioned for a 21st century girl! Anyway, I'd suggest the nickname to be Mabe and not Mab, but that's just my wee opinion...! ;-) As middlenames I'd like the following ones:Mabel Adele (prn. Ah-DELL)

I think it's cute, and yes it would work on a 21st century girl because it's a classy little name, but I really can't say I like Mab at all. I'sd just call her Mae / May or Bel / Bell / Belle.50 mn ideas!Mabel Sofia

I love it! It's one of my favourite names. It's so incredibly charming and sweet. I think it's very old-fashioned but it only serves to make the name that much sweeter. :) I can see myself definitely using it in the future.I could definitely see it on a 21st century girl. I know of a lady who has a daughter named Mabel Rose and I think that's just about as darling as you can get. I also like Mabel Jane and Mabel Pearl. I think it sounds best when paired with a one-syllable middle name._____

I know someone who recently named her daughter Mabel, after a grandmother.. I believe they're planning on calling her Mae, which is sweet.I like it.

Mabel is definitely ready for a comeback! This is a favorite of mine. I don't think it's too old-fashioned or plain at all. I prefer the Mabel spelling.

Mabel is quite plain and I haven't been able to find a middle name to spice it up without it just sounding silly. I really like the nn Mab for Mabel but only because of the Queen Mab associations. Do you think Belle/Bel could be another possible nn or is that a bit strange?

I think Belle would be a natural choice, but only for name-nerds, if that makes sense! It might seem contrived to others, since the "belle" in Mabel isn't stressed. Do you like Maybelle, pr'd "may-BELLE"? I like Maybelle and I thought about Mabella too. My only concern would be the link to Maybelline or that people would think it was a creative spelling of Mabel. Do you think that is likely to happen? Also what do you think of Maybella?

Maybella is very sweet. People might think it's kre8iv, but since it could also be May + Bella, I think it seems quite classy and genuine. Mabel is an off-and-on favorite of mine, and I think it would work fine for a baby girl born in current times (at least it would be a unique choice for a girl these days). I think that Mabel is among those old-fashioned names that would be worthy of a comeback.

I think that Mabel is just old-fashioned and un-used enough for it to be acceptable. Mabel is an off-and-on favourite of mine too, it's just staying "on" for a lot longer this time!Thankyou for your reply.
