[Opinions] A friend's BA
A friend of mine from middle and high school had a baby last summer, and I finally found out the name. Her baby girl is named Elliot Ashlynn. What do you think?

I'm sorry, but I think it's horrible. Elliot is all masculine to me, while Ashlynn looks and sounds awful. :(

Elliot is a great name for a boy, but I've never cared for it as a girl's name. Ashlynn is okay, but very trendy. I prefer Aislinn. I still would have preferred Ashlynn as her first name instead of Elliot, though.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing *remotely* feminine about Elliot. And while I already don't care for Ashley (don't like "ash" in names--although I like Ember, go figure), I immensely prefer Ashley to Ashlynn, which to me sounds very weak.So... no, sorry, can't say I'm a fan.

Trendy and horrible imo, sorry. Elliot is an all male name to me and I dislike intensely to see it used on girls. Ashlynn is just trendy and nms.

Elliot is not a girls' name.

My reaction is about the same as if you'd said she had a son named Emer. It just seems wrong to me, like an embarrassing error. Elliot is not a new name; it is traditionally masculine. Just because Emer ends with an -ur sound like Christopher and Alistair, does not magically make it suitable for a man, and just because Elliot has "Ellie" in it and ends with an -ut sound like Juliet or Charlotte, does not magically make it suitable for a woman. Apologies, but I'm one of those stick-in-the-muds who thinks that if you use a name that is traditionally gendered, it actually does matter if a person is male or female. =P

Yeah... I've seen Elliot on a girl more and more these days. It's not the worst idea... but I would much prefer Ellia, Ellie or Elle.I don't like Ashlynn. It's not cute, it's just tacky.

I think it's too trendy. I don't mind Elliot for a girl, really, but I admit it makes a MUCH better boys' name. Ashlynn is boring and completely forgettable, IMHO.

Fits my theory that once a male name is rated around 15% feminine in the BTN database it is a candidate name for girls to use. Elliott is 83% masc and 17% fem, and even though it's not ranking in the top 1000 names for girls, I have heard of other girls being named Elliott.

No offense to your friend, but ICK!

Love Elliot! Ashlynn is a bit too trendy, okay for a middle name I guess... don't really like the combo.
