I have a cousin named Samantha; she's 11 years old. I don't see it as dated, because it's still moderately popular after 20-30 years of use. If it were dated, I think it would have faded a bit by now, but it seems to be hanging around.
Good thing, too, because I really like it. It's a sweet, soft sort of name, but it still has a backbone. A Samantha knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it (or maybe I'm just thinking of my cousin).
