I LOVE Marius! I fell in love with it in grade 10 while reading a French play called "Fanny". Màrius is one of my favourite Catalan names, I'd definitely use it
I want to like it - I like the Mar- element and like a lot of names ending in -ius. BUT it was the name of my Irish teacher in school who was quite odd. He was prone to violent outbursts and tried to make us all speak Donegal dialect Irish though we lived in Dublin and had educated in Munster Irish till then. I have never met another Marius and have bad associations with it because of him.
Marius, you're late!
What's wrong today? You look as if you've seen a ghost. Some wine and say what's going on... Okay, I'll stop now. :)
So yeah, it makes me think of the Les Miserables character, although that's a bonus for it. But I still don't like it. It makes me think of Marcus, which is a named I've really dislike all my life for some reason. But Marius is at least softer and more romantic, so I can't really dislike it, either.
Not sure about nicknames. I guess Mar or Maury?

I like it and don't feel it needs a nickname.
I love it because of the book/musical!
agree! agree agree! I really like Mars as the nn too!
I don't care for it. I prefer the Italian form Mario.
