[Opinions] Ahnika
I posted about this name a while back but I have a correction to make. My brother and his wife want to name the child this. They announced it via Facebook BUT the mother spelled the name wrong in the Facebook announcement. She spelled it Anhika. Future posts and my complete disgust later, I find out that it's supposed to be spelled Ahnika. In my opinion this really is not much better. I feel like Annika (Anika) is a common enough name that it doesn't need a pointless h in there to help pronounce the name. My brother tried to tell me that they like the spelling because it's 'unique' and that there are only 9 people registered with the SS Administration with this spelling.I don't think it's unique and I almost feel sad that there is an h in there. Their children from previous relationships have names that are 'normal' and spelled correctly. The middle name is going to be Katherine. What do you think of this spelling? Do you like it?

Ahnika is an awful spelling! I am all for spelling names the "normal" way. It makes the child's life, and every who tries to pronounce the childs name easier. Annika is a great way to spell the name, and it is a gorgeous name. Annica is also another option.
Also Annika Katherine doesn't flow, the 'ka' sounds are too close together to sound good.

I think it looks ugly and makes me think of going to the doctor ("Say ahhhh ..."). It reminds me of one of the members of nSync who named his dd Briahna (which further reminds me of 'piranha' with that h in there, lol). My dd, Anna, also had twins in her class once where the parents tried to force the pronunciation (Briauna/Kiauna). That looks way more attractive to me.Anyway, I don't think Ahnika is any more unique than Annika since they sound the same nor do I care for the flow of AhniKa Katherine (repeated ka ka sound) and would prefer Anna Katherine, nn Annika. Still, the names are good so that's something. I love to call my dd Annika sometimes so I do really like it (actually prefer it to her full name).

I would pronounce Ahnika as "AH(AW)-nih-kuh" while I pronounce Annika more like "ANN-ih-kuh" ...so I can see what they're trying to do if they prefer the former pronunciation. But if that's the case (and to maintain 'uniqueness') I would prefer Aunica

I don't think that adding letters into a name makes it "unique". Ahnika is the same name as Annika or Anika. "Unique" spellings just mean the child will have to constantly spell her name out for people. Unnecessary, to say the least.I love the Annika spelling though.

Ugh, that's an awful spelling. I like Annika, though.

Annika is the best spelling. Both Ahnika and Anhika hurt my eyes. They just don't look right.

I like the mispelled Anhika better than Ahnika. The added Hs are unnecessary in both names, but the placement of the h has worse aesthetics in the latter. I still think the 'common' spelling looks best, though (Annika).
