The next year, the Magro family were living somewhat better. Now that the half-breeds were given equal standing to the full-breeds, Romolo has managed to find an actual job as a scholar's assistant (apparently, the scholar finds Romolo's speeches to be simple but eloquent, and had offered him a position to help him write his biography of famous Krianians). But things had hardly took a turn towards the brighter when civil war threatened to strike. The old nobility's resentment towards the Queen's appointees culminated in an unexpected time, and the outrage over Lady Gloriana's appointment turned peace into unrest.
Romolo was worried about the change in things, and he was especially afraid that civil war will tear apart the newly-formed country (Kriana was only as old as his marriage, he remembered vividly). Lavinia tried to reassure her husband, but her cooing proved less effective when she suddenly found herself pregnant again. Of the five times she has carried children, Lavinia found it clear that this pregnancy is by far the hardest. For the last few weeks, she found herself bed-ridden, attended by her husband when he could, and their children when he couldn't. When the baby girl was born, Romolo decided that his darling wife should stop having children, because he simply find her weak state to be greatly frightening. The child was healthy, though - her name was Leandra Minerva, after the Queen.
While civil war loomed over the horizon, the Magro family is still as tight as ever. Dora, ever the responsible eldest child, took care of her mother during and after the arrival of her youngest sister. She has expressed her dreams of someday living in the castle, perhaps as a servant girl (or, as she dreamed, as Her Majesty's wardrobe mistress). Silvio, while not as sensible than his sister, had formed an unbreakable bond with Taddeo. The two brothers were always seen together - older, more mischievous Silvio and younger, quieter Taddeo - sometimes as boys, other times as wolves, but never far apart. Meanwhile, Candida seemed to show the slightest sign of magical capability - the first in the family to inherit her mother's magical blood. Even as an infant, Candida would seem to interact with the animals that passed by the house. Lavinia was convinced that the girl inherited her animal-communicating abilities, and Romolo was more than willing to agree, if only to allow his weakened wife some joy.
