I saw this name online a few years ago, and it's been on my mind again lately. Chehalis (she-HAY-liss) is the name of cities in Washington state and British Columbia, and also the name of two separate tribes in those regions. In the language of the Washington tribe, it means "sand", while it means "beating heart" in the language of those from British Columbia.
I originally saw it used as a boy's name, but I think that it works better on a female. I some of the more popular city names (like London and Berlin) and names from tribes (like Cheyenne), but for some reason I really like Chehalis. Perhaps it is a bit of a guilty pleasure.
What do you think, sound-wise? Does it sound more like a male or female name to you?
