Ari cannot believe how the world has turned upside down over the Great Matter. She and Nicholas know Lady Gloriana personally and could not imagine why anyone would think she was not deserving of every honor given her. The violence eruptign prompted them to move their children out of the city, to an estate given them by Minnie that is a half-day's ride from Hermione's. While the younger children were excited to stay at their summer home, Ione is old enough to know exactly why her parents are moving them and much of what is happening. Marius too knows his parents are worried and knows there is trouble, but Ari and Nicholas are hoping to keep them from knowing any more. Their children are all too young to know the danger they may be in as their parents' popularity drops.
Ari returned to the city periodically to try and help with the situation, but soon those trips stopped as she discovered she was pregnant. With Callista only six months old, all the healers suggested she give up as many of her duties as possible and spend a lot of time resting, for her sake and the child's. Ari still received daily reports on the goings-on in the city, and she traveled their as often as she could to try and help diffuse the situation. She regretted more than ever not further developing her magical abilities when she was younger, as she is certain they could have come in handy. She was at the summer home when she gave birth to a son, thankfully fat and healthy and with a strong cry. He looks a great deal like Ari, and his eyes turned violet after only a few weeks. Ari and Nicholas named him Remus Silvio Philander. Silvio and Philander are the names of two appointee leaders, generals in the war so many years ago, who have been killed in the recent violence.
