Did the first Basil die before Basil L. was born? If not I bet that would have been confusing...

I see they used George twice and possibly Virginia twice as well.... That seems fairly common for that time period. I can't imagine naming one child the same first name as one who passed away though...

Yes, it appears so, from the data that Basil L. was born after Basil had died, the same goes for the Georges.
