I love just Kate. I would definitely consider it if I were having a baby. I think it's fine as a middle name as well, but I like it better as a first name because it's more unexpected there.
I prefer Kate over Cate.
I prefer Kate over Cate.
My Full First Name is Kate.
When it comes up, people usually seem to think I must have a full name and will ask if it's Katherine or Caitlin (to which I explain, neither).
I really don't see the need to have Katherine/Caitlin as a "formal" name if you're going to use Kate as your spoken/social name. It is classic and works fine as a stand-alone name (somewhat akin to my perspective of Emma).
I think it's a little plain for a middle name (which I usually like to spruce up). Maybe it would work well with an interesting first name.
My only real complaint is that people seem to think Katie is equivalent to Kate. I have never, EVER gone by Katie; when people call me it I explain that Katie is not my name.
I prefer Kate to Cate as I prefer more common spellings to uncommon/unique spellings. However, if one's full name was Caitlin and uses a "Kate" nickname, I would assume they spell it Cait (and the same for similar instances).
Ask any questions!

As a MN it's fine, not as a FN thought.
I prefer 'formal' names.

I love Kate. It's beautiful classic and strong even though I would generally assume it was a nickname. I don't like it as much as a middle name cause then it starts to feel like one of those names that just sounds good with everything, and to me making combos is too fun to use "easy" names like that haha.
Cate just looks wrong to me. I like K alot better than C in general though.

I find this name really plain and dull.
If used at all, I prefer it as a nn for Katharine.
It looks better with a K to me.

I wouldn't use it on its own (I like both Katherine / Catherine and Caitlin), but I like Kate as a middle name, paired with long, sort of uncommon names. Magdalena Kate, Georgiana Kate, Ealasaid Kate, Amarantha Kate, Theodora Kate, etc. I don't like Cate; it just doesn't look right to me. If I were to use it as a nickname for Catherine or Caitlin, I'd probably still spell it Kate...

I don't like it as a full name. I prefer it as a nickname.
I prefer Cate as it looks more refined
