I heed some help, please! I am of russian origin and my dad's name is Semyon (pronounced sem-YON ) and I don't know if I should name my baby boy Semyon or go with american version Simon.

I would go with Simon. Alternatively, Simeon is even closer in sound to Semyon.

I'm not American ... but if you've got doubts, wouldn't it be better to take whichever version you prefer - probably Semyon since it does exist in your family - and use it as a mn?

I dislike the Sigh at the start of Simon; but Semyon is going to remind someone of semen one day, which might or might not be an issue for your son.
