They actually sound very different to me. AL-iss and eh-LEES. In German and French however Alice is ah-LEES and then there isn't such a big difference between them. Still I think you can clearly notice the difference.

I prefer Alice because I love Alice in Wonderland.

I prefer Elise. I love Alice pronounced 'ah-lees' not a fan of 'Al-iss'.

I prefer Alice, not sure why but Elise has never appealed to me.

I pronounce Alice like AH-liss and Elise like El-EECE.
