[Opinions] Allegra
What do you all think of this? I came across it in a book I'm reading and it's really starting to grow on me. It's unusual without being too weird, and also it fits to my musical sentiments. Also, any ideas for combos? (Last name would be Wood. My favourite names are in my profile, but if anybody wants me to post them then I will.)

Hi, Tibby ~
I became an Allegra fan after reading it in a book, too. It's a lovely name, imo, and I'm rather unhappy that it's used as the name of an allergy medicine.
:-/Would you mind telling me the name of the book you're reading? Thanks!!DH :-)

The book is called The Jane Austen Book Club and it's by Karen Joy Fowler. The character Allegra is the nineteen-year-old daughter of Sylvia, one of the two main characters. What book did you read it in? I'm always curious about those sorts of things...

Thanks, Tibby, for the book title. The description at Amazon sounds like something I might like, so I'll check it out.I can't remember my Allegra book; I was stranded at a friend's house late one night, and picked up a book from her endtable in order to pass the time. It was some trashy novel about 3 teenaged friends, lol, and while the title didn't stick in my mind, Allegra certainly did!Have a good day,
DH :-)

Really good actually, I thought I wasn't going to like it at first, and now I'm getting quite into it. Definitely recommended. I actually started reading it as an alternative to Pride and Prejudice, which I'm waiting to get off my mum when she's finished with it.

It's one of my top two girls' names. I love it. It's beautiful, it has history, and it's not common at all. I dislike that those stupid medical folks turned it into an allergy medicine, but even that connotation isn't strong enough for me to not love it."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

I rather like Allegra. I picture a striking, confident woman. I've heard the allergy medicine mentioned many times, but I don't think we have it in Britain do we? I've not seen it anyway. The one thing I don't like is that I hear the word "leg" very prominently in the name.Allegra MaeveAllegra FayeAllegra RhianAllegra LuanneAllegra Nadine_____________________________________________________________________Elinor"If you want to make a sound like James Blunt singing, simply take one fork, and drag it down a greasy plate."

Allegra's beautiful; the whole allergy-medication thing isn't too big of a deal, IMO. If it was bothersome for her (and I don't even know if you have it in England, so it might not be), she could always go by Ally. Or Eggy. I think if I was an Allegra, I might ask to be called something like Egg.Anyway, combos for Allegra:Allegra Bethan / Bethany / Beth / Betony

I personally like the nn Legs, as opposed to Egg. But only because I'm almost positive my future children will have long, long legs. :-)"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

Legs is too masculine for me...(m)Or else I would've suggested it. :) But when I hear it, I think of Legs McNeil, probably best known for his amazing book Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk. He coedited it with Gillian McCain, so it's not really 'his' book, but when I think of it, his name stands a lot more than hers.Array

Never heard of him, but yeah I could see how that would affect your view of it. :-)"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

Lol... well I could use that as well, seeing as either way mine and Tom's kids would get the 'long legs' gene - I just hope they get his height =P

Well I've never heard of it, so I guess we don't have it in the UK. And Egg is a cool nickname!

Oops, sorry! *blushes*I'll go sort that now, I apologise! I haven't been to the Games board for ages, I should visit more often. Do I need to do the other two rounds first, or just start with round three?Btw, I hope you don't mind but I stole the Lizzie Bennet pic out of your sig, I just love that shot... she sums up how I'm feeling a lot at the moment. And where's the one on the right from can I ask?

Now it's my turn to blush! I got you mixed up with Tabby, another player of my congrats, but you can join my Congrats Game I've set everything up for you! That's fine about my Lizzie pic, I got it off of one of the P&P movie sites. The three movies are from left to right: Pride & Prejudice, Finding Neverland, and The Phantom of the Opera. These are all movie I saw for the first time around Christmas and loved so I thought I'd put them together in a sig! :)

It's OKThanks for the combos too! My favourites were Allegra Clare, Allegra Francesca (both new favourites, I was trying to find a match for them) and Allegra Viola - continuing the musical theme.

Sorry, but Allegra always reminds me of the percription medicine by that name. It does have a medical...I mean musical flair to it but so does Aria and I think it's prettier than Allegra. Many people on this board do like it though. What do you think of these combos?Allegra Calista
