Prob'ly, but I wouldn't use it here because along w/ having names I like better, it looks like Katakana w/out the 2nd ka.

You mean, like the sword?Sorry, I can't take it seriously as a name. When I hear it, I think of martial arts movies, and Bruce Willis unleashing some pain with a katana in "Pulp Fiction".So no, I don't think it's usable.

I think so. And it sounds pretty cool to me. Plus, both Kat and Tana would be pretty "normal" nicknames if she happened not to be a fan of the uniqueness of her name. But I really like that it's a bit out there while still being totally spellable, legible, and pronounce-able.

Isn't that a samurai sword? Except for that reference that probably only nerds would get, it sounds fine. 42 girls in the USA were named Katana last year (and 6 Katannas) and 3 girls in England & Wales... why not?
