[Opinions] Miley
haha my taste in names is getting worse :p Went from Catherine, Elizabeth, Annabel and Virginia straight to Kaley, Riley and now Miley :p Probably a trendy phase.Anyway I think Miley is cute and the popularity has gone back in 2010. What do you think? Still to associated with Cyrus?Oh and anyone know whether Hawaiian Maile and Miley are pronounce the same? Could it be seen as a more phonetic variant (as in Aidan for Aodhan)?

I don't like it at all. It's too cutesy and flimsy, and I automatically think of Miley Cyrus.I usually hear Maile pronounced like Miley. I'd recommend Maile rather than Miley even though there might be more pronunciation and spelling issues. Maile is more substantial. I still don't care for it because it seems cutesy as well, but at least it's not as sticky sweet and trendy as Miley.

Miley. If you say it, it's not too bad. It's no worse than Kylie or Rylie. A little trendy, and associated with one person, but I think it may have staying power, just because of its similarity to Kylie and Rylie (that is, it's not associated with one person, like say if you named a child Madonna or Elvis). I would assume the Hawaiian Maile is pronounced /mah EE lay/-- you pronounce every vowel in Hawaiian I think.Aodhan is actually not pronounced like Aidan, though people often use it as an alt spelling. It's more like /AY awn/ or /UY awn/ (the "d" is silent when followed by an "h", or sometimes pronounced like a "yuh").

That's actually cool, I like AY-awn :)

It is too cutesy & made up for my taste. And I think it will be super trendy due to Miley Cyrus. In 10, 20 or 50 years, all the Miley's will be about the same age and the name will seem horribly dated. I do think it would be cute on a pet though. ETA: Plus anytime I see it in the birth announcements, it always has different spellings, Milee, Miley, Mylee.

I don't think so, it never even made the top 100. It only came close to it once and has been falling since. There shouldn't be that many of them.

Noooo! I demand you return to the classics! :-)Miley is to Cyrus for me. And I'm not really into cutesy trendy names like Miley anyway. But, I must admit I have had the odd crush on some trendy names. There's hope for you yet!

I don't even live in the US and I definitely think of Miley Cyrus first, which is a terrible terrible association!

Maile and Miley are pronounced the same - I know two Maile's. I prefer the Maile spelling, but I really hate the name.

I've liked this name (as in Maile) for years, thanks to the Elvis Presley movie "Blue Hawaii", where his gf/wife has this name! I think Maile is gorgeous, as it is a legitimate name. Miley is silly to me, as the name has basically come about due to Miley Cyrus, where in her case it is a shortening of her childhood nn 'Smiley"! Both names are pronounced the same way, yes.

I find Miley grating, saccharine, and downright vapid. It doesn't help that I can't stand Ms. Cyrus.Go back to Catherine, Elizabeth, Annabel, and Virginia!

Oh, goodness. Love Riley, Kaley, and Hayley all you want, but "just say no" to Miley. It's awwww-ful. Yes, it is too closely tied to Cyrus. She is, after all, the name's only association. Since Miley was tied to Cyrus's ascent as a star, it's only logical that its popularity declines as hers does. Maile and Miley are similarly pronounced, I believe, but not quite the same; the endings are different. I don't think Miley could be seen as a phonetic spelling of Maile. Anyway, we all know by now where Miley came from...as a contraction of "smiley-miley." It's baby talk from the mouth of Billy Ray Cyrus. *shudders* Not a good source for a name.

Still has trendy star copycat written all over it. Sorry.

Miley.... downright repulsive to me. It's going to very dated in a few years based on the rapid drop that it looks due for.

ughUgh! no offense to you, you seem like a nice person. It just sounds so trendy and I can't get Cyrus out of my head when I see it.
Sorry!
however, Annabel and Virginia are lovely!

That's alright, it's not on my list, I just kind of like it. Annabel is on my top ten list, Kaley as well :P Virginia I love, but it doesn't make the top 10 currently.
