[Opinions] Leo and Delphi
My #1 favorite boys' name at the moment is Leo. I love the sound of it, I love the history about it, everything about it just works for me. However, I am aware that it's becoming steadfastly more popular, and I'm vaguely aware of the fact that it seems to be incredibly popular in Europe ight now. Do you think it will continue to rise? Enough so that I should be deterred from using it? At the moment Leo has just broken the top 200, which doesn't bother me, but I suspect if it broke the top 100 I would be bothered by it. How many little Leos do you know? What do you think of Leo in general?Secondly, what do you think of Delphi? I recognize the fact that it's a bit out there. It seems to me as if it could be a far less common alternative to Sophie. There was a British actress named Delphi Lawrence who made her film debut in the 50's, so there's at least some precedence for it to be used as a name. Is Delphi too crazy as a name? What do you think of it? I'm not at all bothered by uncommon names, since my own real name has never been in the top 1000 in the U.S, but I wouldn't want to give a child a name that was so out there that it became burdensome for them.

Leo is my #1 fave male name of all time and I adore it for all of the reasons you've mentioned. I've had three dds and considered three possible male names and I've liked none of them as well as Leo which is pretty funny since there never will be a little Leo Gabriel. I still love it and hope someone else will get to use it if I can't! I worried about its popularity when Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem used it for their ds, however, I'm not sure it will suddenly shoot to the top of the charts or even to the top 100. At least I hope not. I've never known any men or boys named Leo or Leonardo. I have known a few named Leonard, however, they were all called Len or Lenny (yuk!).Delphi is nice even though it's not my style. I used to know a woman named Delfina and I thought that was beautiful. Overall, I'd prefer Delphi as a nn for Delphine or Delphina.

I love both Leo and Delphi. I also feel that they suit each other. I don't know many Leo's at all.

I think of Leo as a nickname so I don't like it as a standalone full name. I much prefer Leon. Delphi is all right. It's not something I would use, but I can see the appeal. I don't think it's too out there at all. I find it quite usable.

I like Leo and most Leo-derived names, I don't care much for Delphi.

I love Leo and, believe it or not, find Delphi rather charming. I'm wary of Leo's booming popularity as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if it entered the top 100, but I don't think that should deter you from using it. As for Delphi, I consider it to be workable/usable, but I'm not particularly sensitive to practicality (heck, one of my favorite names is Hildegard, and I think the NN Hildy renders it usable).

I like Leo a lot. It is becoming popular but I've never met a young Leo - the only one I know is my age (20).I don't especially like Delphi. It's a place in Greece and I don't really like place names. Also I think the I on the end makes it looks incomplete and the more I look at it the more it looks strange and like I should say del-pie...It could make a nickname, perhaps for Delphine?

I used to be totally in love with Leo, but it wore off. I still really like it, and Leopold, Leonardo and Leonidas, but now I'm not so sold on Leo alone and I find the full names pretentious. I'm more inclined to name a cat Leo tbh. I think it's a great cat name! But yeah, great history, great sound, and yes, growing popularity, but not crazy. I think it will rise more, yes. I know one Leo who is two. I don't really like D names. (I feel this is a character flaw.) Delphi I'm not really into. I don't think it's crazy; in fact, I think it's pretty on-trend with Sophie, and I even see it as being similar to Phoebe / Zoe / Chloe. So while Delphi might seem a little "out there", it's not like she's not going to be a Dorothy with peers like the afore mentioned Sophie and Phoebe. I can see Delphi gaining a little ground in popularity, but I would not worry about it at all. I'd probably use Delphine as the full name if I had to go with Delphi.Leo and Delphi sound nice together too btw!

Leo's ok, but it doesn't wow me. It's a good strong name. Delphi, I love at the moment. It's on my list. I don't think it's too crazy, but I like unusual names. But I guess most people would find it weird. But Delphine seems to be growing in use in the UK so maybe this will not seem so far out for too much longer.

I really like Leo. I don't know any. Delphi could grow on me.
