I like it! It reminds me of Asha and Anya. I think it could stand alone just fine. It's short and nicknamey, but it seems like "-a" nicknames stand alone a lot better than "-ie" nicknames (like Annie, for instance).
I was pronouncing it AHS-ya, so it didn't really sound like ASS when I said it. But I suppose that could be a problema...
