Forgive me for butting in. And this is obviously a matter of personal taste. But couldn't a case be made that nns don't necessarily have to mirror the formal name to the exact sound? Examples:
Adelaide, nn
Ada;
James, nn
Jim;
Catherine, nn
Kate;
Nathaniel, nn
Nate, etc.
I don't think anyone would blink if someone used Ro as a nn for
Roberta, with any pronunciation of
Roberta. Just my two cents. :-)
