Help[Opinions] Bay
This name has really been on my mind lately and I can't stop thinking about it. I like it for a girl. I googled it and found out a female character on the TV show Switched At Birth is named Bay. I was surprised as I had never heard it being used as a name. I never watch that show.
Do you think it's usable? Can you see it getting more popular? Do you see any colors or images when you hear it? Do you know someone named this? What kind of person do you imagine when you hear it?
Too short? I really dislike Bailey but Bay is lovely.

I read a rather bland whodunnit once with a character known as Bay though her full name was Rosebay - which is a weed, I think. And I also think it sounds like May with a cold in the head. Or a nn for someone whose nn was Baby. What I don't think spontaneously is anything connected to the sea.

I really like the sound of Bay and the way it looks. I like that it's short and sweet. Until DH pointed out the "bay at the moon" thing, I loved it. I still like it a lot. I'd just never use it now.
I think Bay is definitely usable. Not sure about the popularity. I don't see colors, however, I picture someone very intelligent, creative and very much a free spirit. Bay trumps Bailey, imo. The whole feeling is different.

I knew a girl nick named Ollie Bay. I always thuoght it was cute and while I don't think I like Bay all on it's own, I would probably like it in a combo or double name of some sort.

I do think it is too short to be used as a full name. It would make a nice nickname for Bailey, although I don't like either name for a girl - they're both boys to me.

I've only heard of Bay on a boy, a british female property show presenter has a son named Bay Atlas (she also has an Oscar Hercules, as has step children Orion and Hal)

The possibility of Bay as a nn is the one thing that makes me still like Bailey, despite Bailey being very much not my style anymore. I don't like Bay as a standalone, but I do like the water imagery that comes with it. I also think of bay leaves and bay horses (positives) and bay rum aftershave and Old Bay Seasoning mix (both sorta negative).
I love short, tidy, zippy names, so Bay's length is a plus with me, but I think I'm in the minority. Bay is probably too short, too naturey, and too wordy to ever be popular.

I think it's kind of neat, actually. I could see it on either gender. I think it would be usable, but there would be people who would think it was dumb/funny. I couldn't see it getting more popular, it's just a short little syllable name.
I actually thought of bay leaves first, then the horse color, then the body of water. So with all of those swirling around in there, I don't know what to think! I'd imagine a girl named Bay would be smart and quirky and outdoorsy.

Yeah I guess many wouldn't like it :/ I wonder why it isn't better known as a name. Isn't Bailey pretty common? I'd imagine some would go by Bay, but I guess not.

Oh god. I'm seeing this ridiculous "name" everywhere and I'm sick of it. It's awful.

It's a word name. Many words are used as names so I don't think it's strange or anything. In my opinion it works fine as a name just like May does. Oh and thanks for being so polite!
