[Games] Estate Congrats Sign-Up
This congrats is inspired by the show Downton Abbey, a new favorite of mine. It will run similarly to my kingdom congrats, where there will be an overarching story and all the families will be connected. But instead of it being an entire kingdom, this congrats will revolve around one single estate, including the family that owns it, relatives who live on or very near the estate, tenants who rent land on the estate, and the servants and employees who make sure the estate run properly. In a departure from my usual M.O. with these games, the first sign-up does NOT determine setting and language. I will provide that, and the first sign-up will be the heir to the estate (male or female, whichever you think will make for a more interesting game) and give the family a surname. The family will consist of living parents and grown children, with the parents not being played but being mentioned. The categories will be:Child: the children of the owners of the estate. All have recently gotten married.
Relative: cousins, nieces or nephews, younger siblings, etc...any type of relation, dependent on the owners in some way. Live somewhere on the estate or near enough to be constant visitors and involved in its affairs.
Tenant: renter, rents land from owners for farming or general living.
Staff: housekeeper, butler, maids, valets, grooms, cooks, footmen, drivers, gardeners, etc. Anyone who works on the estate for the family.Make sure you specify position when you sign up, and be exact: i.e. Relative (cousin) rather than Relative or Staff (kitchen maid) rather than Staff.I'll provide a running story of the family, and you can write and tell how your family fits into it. In your sign-up, tell us about your family: how they live, what they do, what their place in the estate is. Read other posts and establish connections with other players. Please place what rank you are signing up as in the subject line; i.e. (ATTN: STAFF) so they can include you if they wish. The more everyone interacts with their stories, the more fun they are!So, enough of the mechanics; our estate is:Barrington Park. A venerable old manor, recalling the grandeur of the old English estates, nestled right along the shores of New England. Built up since colonial times, the estate has passed from one generation to the next of "American aristocrats," wealthy, powerful, and respected people. It is vast, encompassing thousands upon thousands of acres, seemingly more suited to the English countryside than that of Connecticut. It has always been a place of gentility and tradition. But now, in 1914, with Europe on the brink of disaster the modern world is fast approaching, and Barrington must decide to embrace it or reject it.There will be name rules each round; this round is free-choice as long as it makes sense for the era. Same-sex couples are allowed as long as you explain how they keep it discreet, though the sign-up says DH and DW. Higher-ups (Relative and above) must marry, though they can have mistresses and lovers of the same sex.

DW: Madeline Lydia [Simpson] (Deceased)
DW: Pauline Dorothy [Brooks] (23)
DD: Charlotte Augusta (5)
Rank: Relatives [Uncle, Aunt, and Cousin]After Christian's wife during their second pregnancy he moved back into Barrington so that he could have help with his daughter. Most days he found it difficult to leave his room but as the year passed he began to miss the time he spent with his daughter and started taking her into the nearby city for walks every few days. On one such occasion he met Miss Pauline Brooks, who works in the bakery. After eight months he proposed and she moved into Barrington with him after the wedding. The family doesn't exactly approve, seeing how Pauline brought no dowry with her and isn't from a higher-class family, but Charlotte gets along with her rather well and Pauline is very kind.

He can have one...Unless they live with someone else and are just mentioned, I would rather he had just one child from the previous marriage. I want the focus to be on the new family starting :)

Okay, I'll edit it then =)

DH: Joseph David (35)
DW: Anna Rose (nee Willis) (27)
Rank: Staff (personal manservant and head housemaid)Anna and Joseph had a rather long courtship. Joseph joined the staff in 1910, and there was an almost instant attraction between them. Pretty Anna, with her dark chestnut curls and her blue eyes, had caught attention before, but no one had caught hers until Joseph. The two struck up an easy friendship--indeed, it was hard not to, the two felt such a connection to one another. Soon people began noticing that they sat together at meals and in the evenings, they they often talked and laughed together and walked out together whenever the staff had a day off. After about two years, neither could bear it anymore and they admitted their love. Not so long after, Joseph proposed, but they decided to wait to marry. Both liked their positions: Anna, who waited on the Ashby girls, was very fond of them, and Joseph was equally fond of their father, whom he served. They decided to wait until they had a chance to work out being allowed to stay on or getting other jobs. Eventually they were wholeheartedly welcome to stay on, moved into a cottage on the estate generally used for pensioners but with enough room that they can start a family. Their wedding was attended by Miss Charity Ashby and occured right before she became a duchess. She had originally wanted to take Anna with her to England, but Anna felt she could not leave Barrington, which had been her home since she entered it as an orphaned under-housemaid at 16. Charity respected that, and was very happy for Anna and Joseph on their wedding day. The two have settled happily into their cottage, and cannot wait to start their family.

DH: Richard Henry (38)
DW: Charity Anne (22)
Rank: Charity is the oldest daughter of the family, and married a Duke in England, not necessarily of her own free will. Edit: The Duke is the fictional Duke of Scarborough. By the way, I love Downton Abbey.

LN: Ashby
DH: Jonathan Christopher (26)
DW: Edith Caroline (24)
Rank: Heir to the estate (I hope this is right!)Jonathan is heir to the Ashby estate, as the oldest son. Edith is from a very wealthy, influential family, and has large plans for the estate.Jonathan and Edith were a match made between families, rather than one born from love. Edith's family always considered themselves deserving of a higher class, and the Ashby family were quite happy to welcome in a young wife for their son, who would bring a large dowry with her.Jonathan is a very family minded person. He is devoted to his new wife, and plans on having as large a family as possible. He hasn't really got much of a clue of how to run the estate, preferring to leave the matter to his wife, who certainly has a head for figures and organisation. It is already clear that to get anything important done, it is necessary to go to Edith, rather than Jonathan.Despite this, the two work well together, and appear to be very much in love.

Just clear up...exactly what his relationship is. Is he the oldest child? A cousin or nephew about to take over? Just flesh it out a bit :)
