I now have "Carry On Wayward Son" in my head, so Kansas feels more masculine than feminine to me, but I guess it could work for either. I don't really like it, but if there are kids named Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas out there, there can be kids named Kansas too.
I think it would occasionally be mistaken for Candace, particularly on the phone, but that's not a big deal, imo. A bigger problem, for me, is the "we're not in Kansas anymore" jokes. I imagine teenaged boys and ex-boyfriends of all ages could have some meanspirited "fun" with that one, and it would get old fast.
