What are your honest opinions of the name Ciaran / Kieran? Which spelling do you prefer? I'm leaning towards Ciaran so that its different than Kiefer my other favourite, but I worry about how it would be pronounced. Thoughts?

2. What is your impression of it? What kind of assumptions would you make about someone with that name? - My impression is that its a nice name, but I wouldn't assume anything with it. It doesn't "belong" to a certain group.
3. Do you think that a little boy named Ciaran would be teased? Especially with the popularity of Kiera? - Nope, I don't. See my post before - Kids won't get teased because of their names.
4. Do you think that the name Ciaran would age well (Regardless of the supposed "Irish" trend)? - Yes (I'm doing this backwards, sorry for repeating!)
5. Can you think of any drawbacks/negative associations? - No, Kiaran would be better. (Kiefer and Kiaran are not too close)
6. Can you think of any positive associations? - Its a good, strong, not too popular name.
7. Does the combo Ciaran George Derry sound good? (Middle names must honour family). Other possibilities, Richard, John, James, Robert, suggestions? - I think Ciaran Robert Derry sounds better.
8. How does Ciaran fit in with Kiefer, Harrison, Liam? Is Kiefer & Ciaran too close? - It fits in very well - except with Harrison. They are very Irishesque names, but not overly so.

I like it. I don't think I'd make any assuptions

No I wouldn't but then where I live Kieran's been popular for a while whereas Kiera is only recent. I'll bet there is a Kieran in nearly every class or at least most kids will know one. (I live in England, BTW)

Yes, I worked in a solicitors last summer and one was called Kieron.

Kieran used to be in my top 5, but I don't like it as much as I used to for some reason. It started to sound too similar to Karen to my ears.
I vary between Kieran and Ciaran, I really like both spellings, but I tend to lean towards Kieran. I do also really like Kiefer, and I can understand wanting to use Ciaran to differentiate between Kieran & Kiefer, otherwise people may think that it's supposed to be a sibset theme. I think that most people would know how to pronounce it, but I can't say for sure.

Ciaran / Kieran strikes me as an actor or a writer's name to me for some reason. Strangely I see Ciaran with dark hair, and Kieran with light hair, not sure why.

I don't think that Ciaran would be teased, and with the spelling Ciaran most people probably wouldn't even connect it to Kiera.

I think it would age well. I can picture it on a 5 year old as well as a 50 year old.

To me, Ciaran is KEER-awn and Kieran is KEER-an. Subtle but important difference. :) I far far far prefer Ciaran.

In the USA, I would prefer the spelling Kieran as Ciaran will lead to many more mispronunciations when people first see the name.
The only assumption I would make about someone with the name is that his parents had Irish ancestry or were otherwise interested in Ireland.
I don't think a boy named Kieran would be teased just because Kiera is a popular girls' name. The -n ending is so popular for boys' names right now that many people will automatically assume that Kieran is male and Kiera is female.
I see no reason why Kieran would not "age well".
The combination sounds fine to me, and I think Kiefer and Kieran are just far enough apart that they would be "doable" for brothers.

Ciaran is my absolute favorite boy's name right now! I really love it, and I love the spelling Ciaran instead of Kieran for several reasons: in general I prefer C names over K names, the K spelling is fairly popular, the C spelling is the original Gaelic, the C sort of honors my dad who's name is Colin which is also Gaelic and starts with a C.

3. Do you think that a little boy named Ciaran would be teased? Especially with the popularity of Kiera? ~ not at all, Irish names are very popular and I don't usually think of Kiera when I see Ciaran. So especially if you spell it Ciaran the boy wouldn't be teased at all.
