I can't stand it when someone uses Charlie on its own. It's not dignified, and a baby boy who will grow into a little boy and then into a man deserves a dignified name on his birth certificate. If you hate Charles so much that you can't use it, even with Charlie as a nickname, I think that you should forgo Charles and Charlie altogether.
