Jessica Simpsons' birth announcement reminded me of how much I like the name Drew for both genders. One of the few names I like equally on boys and girls.
For a girl I like it on it's own but also as a nickname for Drusilla (I'd probably spell it Dru then, though), for a boy I like it on its own and as a nickname for Andrew.
What do you think of Drew?

What do you think of Drew?
About 5-6 years ago, I was deeply in love with the combo Cordelia Drew (fwiw, I also loved Cordelia Ryan--apparently, I really like Cordelia paired with a unisex/masculine mn). I've also considered Drew for a second son. So, obviously, I do like it.
Do you prefer it on a boy or a girl?
I like it for both, but, on a girl, I'd be more likely to use it as mn. I'd use it both as a first or middle name on a boy.

Hmm. I really like Drusilla as much as I like Drew, so I probably would go for Drusilla, nn Dru. Any day I can get "two names for the price of one" is a good day for me. In all honesty, though, Drusilla is a pretty polarizing name with a lot of haters out there, so I would never use it just to get to Dru/Drew, if you get my meaning. I think just Drew on its own would be better received by most people.

Since I love Drew and only like Andrew, and I would want to avoid any chance of ending up with a son named Andy, I would just use Drew.
Although I don't know any Andrews really well (kinda weird, since it has been so common for so long), I do know a few from work, church, and at my son's school and daycare. There seems to be an age divide in nicknames. Over a certain age, they're Andy. Under a certain age, they're Drew. I feel like I hear Drew a lot when I'm out and about. I really think it is the stylish choice in Andrew nicknames right now, and when I run into little Drews on playgrounds, in doctors' offices, or in restaurants, I bet many of them are Andrews.

I haven't met many Drew's. I've met many more Andy's. I think generally most Andrew's go by Andy rather than Drew. I personally prefer the nn Drew over the nn Andy.

I think I barely knew one guy in high school. I may have met one in college. I've seen and heard of some Drew's but really not very many.

I know an Andrew in his 30s who went through a stage of being Drew; now I think he's gone back to Andrew.
Drew is better than Andy, like most things, but I'm not fond of Andrew so I'd never use it.
For a girl, Drusilla is quirkily pleasant but once again I wouldn't use it so I wouldn't think about the likelihood of Dru. You're right, though - it would be Dru, not Drew.
For both, Drew sounds droopy and wimpy and slow: funnily enough, so does Andy, only more so.

I've never met a Drew - I don't think it's very popular in Wales or England. It's okay.
Of the seven Andrews I know, one goes by Andrew, one by Andy (he's 50-something) and all the rest are almost never called by their first name and use entirely unrelated nicknames, probably to dodge getting called Andy. It's kind of odd that they never thought of Drew.

I like Drew as a nickname for Andrew, but not on its own.
Definitely for a boy. I don't like it for a girl at all.

My best friend when I was five was a boy named Drew. I think his name was just Drew, though, not Andrew.
I don't mind Drew on a girl but I think I'd prefer to see it on a boy. At any rate, I know three male Drews and zero female Drews. I don't think I've ever come across a female Drew irl. I think it's sexy on a guy. ;)
I would rather see Drew on a girl than Drusilla "Dru". But only slightly.
And I'd rather see Andrew "Drew" than Drew by itself (for males), just because I think Drew is too nicknamey to stand alone, although of course that's just my opinion.
I think in Australia Andrews are mostly Gen X, and I'd say more would go by Andrew because Andy is pretty infantile. But I'd guess that more go by Andy than Drew.

I used to know a guy named Drew. He was geeky and neurotic like woah, but I thought he was cool anyway. Smart guy. I wanted to name our son Drew because I like the name enough. My husband rejected it, maybe because he had been friends with the same Drew I had known. He said we could use Andrew but he would not have called the boy Drew and I did not want us calling our son two different names. I've also seen a couple of young boys around named Drew (no girls). It gave me a less good impression on children, TBH.
