[Opinions] Feline
A somewhat popular name in the Netherlands, pronounced FAY-leen-(uh) or FUH-leen-(uh), and I really like it! Except that in English it's a genus name for cats..
So is this ever usuable, or only if make sure the girl never goes to an English speaking country? And combo ideas?

if you spelled it differently it would be great. I like the sound a lot.
Falene
Faleen
Falene
Faleen
I like the sound, but I agree, it's not usable in an English-speaking country.
How about Faline (FAH-leen)? That's spelled similar but wouldn't get confused with the word 'feline'. If you used Feline as a name, I can see everyone pronouncing it 'FEE-line', as in 'cat'.
It isn't usable in English speaking countries. Maybe Faline would be a better choice.
Well.. Most people don'te refer to animals by ther Linneaic names, but use a more common term.
The genus name is Felis, and the common name for the genus is, in English, Felines. Whereas in Dutch, the the scientific name is still Felis, but commonly referred to as: Katachtigen (those like cats).
Just as Canis --> Canines (English), but Canis --> Hondachtigen (Dutch)

Exactly. Which is why I'd think Felis would actually, in theory, be a better choice... because it's not used in common speech
My dog approves...
I don't like the name though for the fact it's a genus name for cats.

I like Felina ("fuh-LEE-nuh") and Falene ("fuh-LEEN"), the latter being my own spelling preference (Faline is the spelling they use is Bambi) but I'd be wary of using Feline. It's not even that it's a biological name... I mean I'd use Ursine (for bear) over Feline... it's that it's a COMMON biological name that comes up much more often than other genus names
no, not usable
