[Opinions] Mariah
I love the name Mariah for a girl. I just wish it weren't so tied to one person, Mariah Carey. (Incidentally, I don't like her.) Do you think that association is too strong?Combos (but other ideas welcome :-):

Mariah Bethany

I too love the name Mariah. It just sounds so nice. I do think the Mariah Carey association is quite strong, but if you really like the name, then I wouldn't let that put you off it. I like all three combos you had, my fave would be Mariah Bethany though. Here are a few more combo ideas:Mariah Jane
Mariah Stephanie
Mariah Pearl
Mariah Daisy
Mariah Lily
Mariah Sadie
Mariah Chloe
Mariah Danielle
Mariah Gwendolyn
Mariah Felicity
Mariah Katherine
Mariah Paige
Mariah Elizabeth
Mariah Eve
Mariah Tess

For me the association is too strong. At one point I liked the name Mariah, but now all I can think of is Mariah Carey. Blech :( Mariah Bethany is pretty though.

I'm really starting to like Mariah. I don't associate it with Mariah Carey particularly because I don't like her and she's not exactly on my mind very often. I don't think it'd be a problem in real life, really, since it's a less common but not completely unheard of name. I also like the similar name Moriah, and given the way I speak they'd sound exactly the same anyway. When I was reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy I thought Moria would have made a neat name, except it's not exactly the happiest of connotations. Plus I'm not into the books enough to go naming a child after something I found in them. :-)I think Mariah Patience is very sweet. From my own personal name list I liked:Mariah Elisabeth
Mariah Antonia
Mariah Romaine
Mariah Constance
Mariah Frances

I don't think it's too strong. There are many little girls named Mariah, and although there are no other celebs with the name, I don't think it matters. It's the name of one of my best friends, and we're 19 to 20 years old. Mariah Carey wasn't even popular when she was named."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

I don't really think it's too strong, but it's what some people would think of.The spelling Moriah is pronouced exactly the same, and in my opinion is loads better (it's Hebrew).I can't stand Patience, but Mariah Bethany and Mariah Lilian are nice.Mariah Jane

Mariah Gabrielle

Mariah is pretty, but unfortunately I only think of Mariah Carey. I guess it depends when you're thinking of using the name. Right now I wouldn't recommend using it because Mariah Carey is still relatively well known and the association is too strong, but in 5 or 10 years, maybe she'll be off the radar:)If you really wanted to use it now, I'd spell it differently just to add some distance, although none of the immediate options that come to mind are that exciting...Maraiya
Maraya
MaraiaThe Mariah spelling also makes me think of pariah, which isn't so good.

I really like it--the sound of the name is really nice. When I hear it, I actually don't immediately think of Mariah Carey. See, I read Ann M. Martin's Babysitters Club books voraciously in elementary school, and one of the "charges" (the girls they babysat) was a Myriah Perkins--who was, weirdly enough, supposed to be an awesome singer. So I picture her first, and then Mariah Carey, and then the band The Black Maria.Mariah Patience is my favourite of your combos. I think it's got a really nice blend of sounds. Some other ideas:Rowan Mariah
River Mariah
Mariah Scarlett

I used to love the Babysitters Club, and I remember Myriah :-) I always pronounced it MYE-ree-uh in my head, and only much later did it dawn on me that it's a spelling of Mariah. Thanks for the combos, I love Rowan Mariah, River Mariah and especially Mariah Scarlett._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

I always pronounced it MYE-ree-uh in my head, and only much later did it dawn on me that it's a spelling of Mariah. That's interesting, because it took me a long time to realize it was supposed to be Mariah, too! I always said meer-EYE-uh rather than muh-RYE-uh.Array

No, I don't think of Mariah Carey at all! So I suppose the question you really should ask yourself is would the people around you think of Mariah Carey right off or not? I don't know very many Mariahs at all and I think it's a very pretty elegant name. I also like Maria when pronounced like Mariah! :)Mariah Patience is nice and so is Mariah Lilian, but Mariah Bethany doesn't flow as well. What about on of these?
