[Opinions] Astoria
I have been in love with the name Asta for a girl for a while now, but felt it needed to be a nickname, rather than a full name. Then today I stumbled across the name Astoria and I am even more in love now! I think Astoria is one of the prettiest names I have seen and it has such great nickname potential (Asta, Astor, Astra, Story, etc.). What are your opinions on the name Astoria? I also think I like Astoria Marie as a full name (Marie is my middle name and also a family name) or possibly Astoria Blythe. Thanks! :)

I like it. Astoria Blythe is a beautiful combo, very cheerful and airy sounding - and I don't even normally like Blythe. Marie is a bit too filler for me but ok since it's a family name.... Astoria Blythe Marie would be pretty too :) Or Astoria Marie Blythe, depending on how each flow with the surnameI much prefer Astoria to similar "As-" names because the "ass" sound isn't the one that's emphasised. I like the idea of Astoria nn Story or Tori but Astoria nn Asta works great too if that's what you're shooting for.

I like Asta too - came across it in Roald Dahl's autobiography, I think it was the name of one of his sisters, so presumably short for Astrid.
Astoria does have quite a nice sound, but I've only ever seen it as a name for buildings and businesses, which would put me off using it. Your combos do work well with it, though.

The name reminds me of a cinema - the Astoria Thestre - but I quite like Astra
Astrid is better imo
The "ass" sound might be a problem, though

Agree with Waldorf Astoria comments, it was once a great hotel but it's sort of run down or past it's heyday. My husband likes Asta even though it's the name of the dog in the Thin Man movies but I doubt anyone would know that.

It reminds me of a charming little town: Astoria, OR. For me it had a lovely connotation.

Waldorf AstoriaIt's a hotel. If I heard of a person being named Astoria I would think "Wow, sounds like a bad YA novel where somebody is named after the hotel where they were conceived or born."

Welcome to The Waldorf Astoria.

Almost everyone with any familiarity with Astoria will associate it with Astoria, Queens...the neighborhood you live in if you can't afford to live in Manhattan.
