I think of the little girl from "The Family Circus" comic and my grandfather; he called all his granddaughters "Dolly" from time to time. It was a sort of generic girls' nickname to him, the way Bud and Stretch were for his grandsons.

Dolly is quaint, innocent, a little folksy, and very, very childish. Cute, but I think it's best as a nn.
