I knew a girl named this in primary school. She was a little sweetie so I have good associations with the name. The pronunciation Tiggs suggested is the one the girl I knew used.

I wasn't expecting anyone to have been familiar with the name. Let alone having known someone with it!Thanks!

I would say mee-rah-buy without emphasis on a particular syllable. It's beautiful and I love the connection to the historical Mirabai.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MeeraI also like Laxmibai and many other names with the bai ending.

I like that connection too, and it has a lovely sound.Laxmibai is different. I've never heard of it before. I'll have to check it out. :)

I like MEE-rə-bie. I think it sounds pretty and quite exotic (if that word isn't too colonial). The nickname Mira is always nice.

Mira would be a cute nickname and it's a proper enough name that it could be used in everyday life without sounding immature. That's always a plus!

I'm completely unfamiliar with this and read it as "MEER-uh-bie", like Mirabelle but with "bye" in place of "belle". Made me think of "lullaby".

That's how I pronounce it as well. It really is reminescent of "lullaby".Thanks!
