The female name Leto from Greek mythology doesn't have a pronunciation on the site.
Comments are conflicting. I posted asking for the pronunciation on the facts board, but so far, no reply.

So... If you just saw it on a roll call list or something, how would you pronounce it?

LET-oh like Jared Leto?
Or LEE-toh similar to the word "lido"?

Also, thoughts on it in general?

I would pronounce it as Leto:

Leto (Λητώ) in Modern Greek would be pronounced as lee-Toh.

I love Leto, which I find simultaneously zippy and grave, and I pronounce it "LEE-doh" (like "lido").

I really like the name Leto, and always imagined it pronounced LET-oh. I don't like it as much the other way.

Leto is pronounced LEH-to in Croatian, and I believe the Greek pronunciation would be similar.
However, it's quite possible that it's lee-TO or lay-TO in in English (since many Greek names don't retain their original pronunciation in English).

ETA: I found this http://www.forvo.com/search/leto/en/ which seems to indicate that it's lee-eh-to in English.

I can see how it would most likely be similar to the Croation pronunciation. That is how I've been pronouncing it. Thanks!

Hm, well, in Swedish it would sound like LÉ-toh (maybe LAY-to is the closest I can get in English).

I would probably pronounce it Leto, only because I've only come into contact with it in terms of Jared Leto.

However, I would constantly associate the name with him.

The possible meaning listed on BtN is very interesting though, and I like the Greek myth association.

I needed a Greek myth name for a character of mine. When I saw Leto, I got pretty excited because one of my favourite films is Alexander which stars Jared Leto (and, of course, they're Greek in the movie!). I saw the name and my heart got really happy. I had already planned to use it no matter which pronunciation was decided upon. :)
