Wow, that is a very cool name! I've never heard Bartolome or Bartolomeo before, but they are really cool. I'd love to meet one!
Yes, I think an English speaking kid could pull it off.
HOWEVER, I hate this nickname question, because it always assumes that the kid will also dislike the same nickname you dislike. For a long name like this, I'd say if you don't want Bart used, you need to quickly attach another nickname instead. Tolly? Tollo? Meo? BUT, then you need to get over yourself if your kid one day decides he likes Bart. I maintain that if you love a name but really think you'll always hate the obvious nickname, then steer clear. Maybe you'll be able to avoid it, but maybe not.
