Why not Bear? Because in the LGBT world, a "bear" is a big, fat, hairy guy. Nothing against big, fat, hairy guys, but it's usually not the type of image a person wants associated with their baby's name.

Lion is...pretty stupid. To be honest, I hate animal names. They sound so juvenile.
