Very strange. Anyway, according to Jewish Family Names and Their Origins: An Etymological Dictionary, Gestetner is from Middle High German gestete 'river bank'.

My Maiden name is Gestetner. Out of boredom, I decided to check out the meaning of my name. In general, all Gestetners are related to each other.
