I think Violet is a beautiful name. It's not overly common here in Australia, as I think it might sound a little too old-fashioned for some parents. The sound is close to 'violent', but that's not enough of a deterrent for me, as you obviously wouldn't name a child "Violent"! A beautiful name imo.
