[Opinions] Isidora
Well, it looks like my middle daughter and her boyfriend will be engaged by their birthdays at the end of this month. They're looking at rings and hope to marry after her college graduation in December of this year. She told me yesterday that she really likes Isidora with the nn Izzy and wanted to know what I thought. Honestly, I think Izzy is played out and the name feels a tad heavy and not totally refreshing after all the girls named Isabella, Isabel, Isabelle, Isobel, etc. I did tell her that Isidora is the feminine form of Isidore ("gift of Isis") so she needs to keep that second i in the name. That surprised her since Isadora seems the intuitive spelling based on the way we pronounce it. If I can help it, my future grandchild will have her named spelled the most correct way!So, I want to love the name but just can muster up the feeling yet. WDYT of Isidora?BTW, the boy name they like? Jethro! Give me strength! It doesn't even remotely complement Isidora so I'm hoping they'll change their minds on that.

I love Isidora, it's my top girl name! And I only like that spelling. Izzy isn't a bad nickname, but I do prefer Isa or Dora. Jethro isn't that bad, but I don't have any associations with it!

I love Isidora, this spelling. You are so right about the second "i" because it's the feminine form of Isidore. (Sticklers unite! We have nothing to lose but our pains!)I still like Izzy as a nn. How about Iddie? Dorie? Dodie? Sid? Sidra? It's just a hop, skip and a jump from Jethro to Arlo. . . .

I can see the appeal of Izzy, but it is certainly not refreshing. I do think that Isidora is better than Isabel(la) and variants though. I don't really like it though. On the other hand, I could totally get behind Jethro and would name his brother Ezekiel. :) But that's just me...

I love Isidora! (although I like Isadora spelling too). It's a bit long for everyday though, so it probably should have a nickname. I think Isidora "Isis" would be cool, although I don't know if they'd consider Isis to OTT to be a nickname. Otherwise Isa or Dora would work. I agree that Izzy is overdone.
I think Jethro could go with Isidora (although I don't really have any associations with either).

*forehead slap* Why didn't I think of Isis as a nn for Isidora? Nice one. :-)

SidI find it a bit lavish, and it could work on someone with an eccentric family. But it would be a little much on a run-of-the-mill type of family. The nickname Sid does enhance my appreciation of it. Isidora nn Sid is #adorbz.

I love Isadora, with this spelling. Isidora looks wrong to me, no matter what the "correct" spelling is. It's not like Isadora is a creative spelling anyway.
As for Jethro....I don't like it. Makes me think of one of my favorite characters in NCIS though; Leroy Jethro GIbbs.

I prefer Isadora to Isidora and then you can use Sadie as a nn, even though I prefer Isidor to Isadore for a boy. Really dislike Izzy. I think you can lose the second I and it still means the same thing. I like Jethro as well. But I know in the US it has the Beverley Hillbillies character as a point of reference for people of my generation. In the UK it's a more hippy Jethro Tull kind a vibe.

I would be so excited to have grandkids named Isidora and Jethro, why so much complaining.

I don't mind Isidora as much. It's much better than the name they used to like, Jolene. Jethro is heinous in a Beverly Hillbillies sort of way. It doesn't exactly sound awful. I just can't get past the hillbilly association.

I used to like isidora for a mn but I got comments that it sounded witchy, and I did t like the Isabel popularity. I prefer the nn Dora over izzy for a nn.I have no fondness for jethro. But they could do worse. At least it's not heaven mispelled backwards. Also they're a long way off yet.

O.M.G. Dear lord don't let them use Jethro! I think Isidora is pretty. I almost think the Isa beginning of Isabel is the prettiest part anyway, but people seem to be so attracted to the -belle right now. I'm with you that it should be spelled with the "i." They could certainly do a lot worse, especially for non-namenerds!
