But no, Mindy is just a nickname for Melinda so I picture Melindas. Softspoken and wry divorcee, long salt and pepper hair, who dresses really nice for work. And it reminds me of Cindy, which is a little bit aggressive and witty, so a dash of that for calling herself Mindy.
I'm not into it as a first name standing alone. It seems a little too girlish. I would rather be Melinda called Mindy than just Mindy.

I see Zooey as more of an Ali MacGraw. Perhaps it's the Manic Pixie Dream Girl thing.
