I'll see the "too trendy" and "bad meaning" comments and raise you a "dull" and "insubstantial" and "too cutesy."
Ditto! lol

The "son of-" meaning does not bother me at all. I have never understood why people care so desperately about keeping certain names only for girls, or only for boys. The only Mackenzie's I have ever known (and I know a lot) are ALL girls. I don't like this name because it is ridiculously tendy, and every second little girl seems to be named this. At least around here (Ontario, Canada) anyways. I prefer something a little more creative. Just my opinions, I hope no one is offended.
I like it lol with the nn Mac!
Sorry, I hate it with passion...! :-/
Cheers,
Cheers,
Mackenzie its pretty but not one of my favorites. I heard a nn Kinzie.

Mackenzie is not only trendy, but it is also a surname meaning "SON of Kenneth"? What is so great with such a name when there are lots of gorgeous girl's names, which are classic and feminine.
Or do you only care about the sound of the name, nothing about meaning or history?

I guess the ln-as-fn trend has not reached Scotland yet
Also, since McKenzie is a Scottish surname, maybe people don't find this name so great as fn?
I think McKenzie would be a nice mn, if it was a family name.

Actually, I read that the Scots were one of the first to start using surnames as first names. They've been doing it for a few hundred years now.

It's not my style and I would never use it but I think it would be ok for a boy only. I know it's supposed to be masculine & feminine but I feel it's very masculine.

To me, too trendy for a girl, and such a guy-ish meaning, but I do think it's not bad for a guy. I dislike it on both, though.

Well... My mn is MacKenzie. And I hate it! I hope you don't take any offense to that! Really, I just think it is too trendy, don't like the meaning, (mine is spelled silly) and it is rather sur-namish.
I like it spelt MacKenzie, I don't care about trendyness. :)

I really dislike "son of" names for girls, and Mackenzie's no exception. Why'd you want to name your daughter a name meaning "son of Kenneth"?
The trendiness turns me off too.
But if I had a son with guy named Kenneth, I'd maybe name him Mackenzie in honour of his father.

Ditto except the Kenneth part :P
Mackenzie is not my style for a girl, mainly due to the "son of" meaning (the same applies to most other names that mean "son of" when used on a girl). Sorry!
I like it, but I wouldn't use it - not b/c of the popularity issue, just nms
